Formed in 1968, the Savage Rose is one of the most unique Danish musical phenomenons. From the beginning they received international attention, playing in places like the Newport Jazz Festival and touring the world several times. From a position as icons of the hippie era, they continued to develop their musical expressions, soon covering ballet and classical compositions as well as psychedelic rock.

Although Thomas Koppel passed away suddenly in 2006, Savage Rose continues to tour and record – still fronted by Annisette and her distinctive voice. International artists like Björk have mentioned the band as a major source of inspiration. Another admirer is Rolling Stone Magazine’s David Fricke, who is a regular visitor to SPOT Festival. According to him, the Savage Rose are “not prisoners of history, because they never stopped making it.”

Now the family’s musical journey continues as Annisette and Thomas Koppel’s two daughters, Billie and Naja Rosa, both follow in their parent’s musical footsteps.

Since childhood, the two often followed their parents on tour, gradually beginning to sing along on stages and album recordings.

This year’s SPOT Festival is the first event where the Koppel sisters are both playing live with each their project.

Naja Rosa – whose debut album is on the way – has played in streets and clubs around the world. The concert at SPOT is her first major solo performance in Denmark. She plays at the venue Musikhuset (Store Sal) at 2 pm on Saturday 22.

The same evening, her sister Billie performs under the name of Catbird together with multiinstrumentalist Frank Hasselstrøm. The duo has released two albums so far and is recording their third this summer. Catbird plays at the venue ArcHauz at 10.30 pm.
