Early in the night it was official: Sold out!
Thursday night in Brussels. It’s just past eight and SPOT On Denmark’s Christian Buhl makes no effort to hide his big smile as he puts the sign ”SPOT On Denmark – SOLD OUT” on the wall of the Brussels venue AB – much to the regret of the fans and music business people who didn’t buy their tickets or got the accreditations in time – but obviously it is something that pleases the SPOT On Denmark organizers ROSA and MXD and also the Belgian and Danish music business people who had defied the November rain (Belgium is no different from Denmark in that respect) to be present at the preceding networking dinner as well as the actual concert.
In other words it is worth the effort. After just three years SPOT On Denmark is gradually establishing itself as a significant event in both the Danish and the Belgian music business. As is the case with the interest from the spectators, the focus from the industry has never been greater, and you clearly sense that the music representatives from both countries are eager to make new acquaintances. The difference from the previous years is that a lot of people know each other by now – and consequently also know each other’s potentials and limitations. You no longer start from Adam and Eve in other words…

So both in terms of music business relations and music audience the SPOT On Denmark concept works perfectly in Brussels. The venue was almost packed when Prins Nitram played and after I Got You On Tape had entered the stage, it was steaming hot in the intimate venue with a capacity of 250. And the significant musical change of pace to Lucy Love and Fagget Fairys caused no confusion – the sauna feel remained for the rest of the night. Det er altså besværet værd.

The AB sauna was packed from the very first line of I Got You On Tape’s set.

Focus on social aspects
Although it is too early to talk about concrete results of the efforts of the night – the prospects are good though – MXD boss Thomas Rohde was pleased to note that the SPOT On Denmark # 3 “has improved and strengthened the concept when it comes to the social networking between Danish and Belgian music business people”.

“We have seen to it that they got together via our anchorman – in fact we have played a very active part before the event in order to get results. And well, perhaps this isn’t rocket science, but very often it’s with the little details that things go wrong and the projects fail. That just didn’t happen here – everything just went perfect".

"When adjusting the concept I think we made a good decision this year to change the Belgian jury who select the Danish acts. Last year it was a journalist jury – this year it has been a mix of media people and industry people and that broadened the scope".

"Whether we are going to keep coming back here? I think so. Even if we as organizers were to get “tired” of our success, the rest of the world is only starting to find out what’s happening. It takes time to make a concept stick”, says Thomas Rohde
