Cody, Kiss Kiss Kiss and Ginger Ninja – these three Danish SPOT acts have been chosen to play at the internationally renowned Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

On Saturday, July 10 the three bands will perform at the Montreux Jazz Café in the Montreux Music & Convention Center as a part of the ”SPOT On Denmark” event. Apart from the concerts, SPOT On Denmark focuses on networking between the Danish and the Swiss music industries.

A Swiss jury consisting of representatives from the Montreux festival – as well as other members of the media and music business – selected the three acts after seeing them at last week’s SPOT Festival.

Generally the reactions have been positive for both SPOT Festival and its performing musicians.

Below are a couple of quotes:

”If you’re into discovering new exciting music SPOT Festival is a small sonic-Disneyland with a bill consisting of approximately 140 well-chosen acts.” (…) “it maintains an exceedingly humane character.”
Si Hawkins / Vasilis Panagiotopoulos, Clash Magazine (UK)

“I think it’s excellent. I think it’s incredible. For me personally, SPOT has done its job and introduced me to a lot of Danish music - a lot of bands I knew nothing about.”
Jonathan Cargill – owner & co-founder, Secretly Canadian (US)

“SPOT is more interesting than the usual big festivals. It’s nice when you can just sneak around and maybe stumble upon some tiny little band that you’ve never heard of before. It’s a chance to be surprised, to see something unexpected. That’s how I like it best.”
Andreas Gstettner – journalist, Radio FM4 (AT)

“There’s a lot of musical quality every year. I’m surprised, because Denmark is a small country, but the music scene is very alive. Denmark should be proud. There are so many things happening.”
Robert Meijerink – EuroSonic Noorderslag Festival (NL)

”This year’s SPOT Festival has reminded me why I come here every year. It’s a well organized festival with music of very high quality. It’s the best weekend of the year.”
David Fricke – Senior Editor, Rolling Stone Magazine (US)

“The SPOT Festival is really nice. It is concentrated – the right amount of music and meetings. There’s the convenience of the venues being close together, and people are really helpful. I’m also impressed by the venues – the sound, the light.”
Jeff Owens – label manager, Ghostly International (US)

“Denmark rocks – that's my conclusion after attending the 16h annual SPOT music festival in the charmingly quaint Danish city of Aarhus May 20-22 (…) an amazingly eclectic selection of fantastic tunes that opened the ears of your humble correspondent to the vibrant and inspiring Scandinavian music scene. (…) Something is definitely rocking in the state of Denmark.”
